Week 1: Self-Awareness: This week we will define what self-awareness is--namely, being aware of our thoughts, emotions, actions, and speech. We will talk about how being self-aware will help us be more successful in the world, and how it will help us get along better with others.
Week 2: Self-Management: This week we are talking about all the areas in our lives we need to get control over, whether it is our emotions, our thoughts, words, or actions. We are talking about growth vs. fixed mindsets, being proactive rather than being reactive, and we are creating positive affirmations for our lives.
Week 3: Relationship Skills
Week 4: Responsible Decision Making
Week 5: Social Awareness
Week 6: Our Place in the World: values, altruism, consumerism, sustainable living in a world of pollution, living in harmony WITH Nature--not against it
Week 7: Current Issues: This week we will be looking at the debate about Columbus Day and whether or not the country should still celebrate it in light of the atrocities that were done to the Taino Indigenous peoples by Columbus and the Spanish. We will be looking at arguments and articles for and against the holiday, and we will have a session of "philosophical chairs" where the students use evidence from the articles to decide for themselves.
Week 8: Civic Engagement: This week we will learn what civic engagement is, what it looks like, and why it is important for our community and our nation.
Week 9 and 10: Weebly Project synthesizing the themes we covered this quarter
